Antique Garnet Beads

A lovely strand of hand-cut faceted almandine garnet beads. Unlike the smaller Bohemian garnets typically found in Victorian jewelry, almandine garnets are found in larger sturdier formations that allowed gem-cutters to shape them into substantial sized beads. This necklace shows irregularly uniform rondelles of approximately 6mm. The dark wine red to purplish brown colored stones shift from near-black in shadow to fiery crimson as the facets catch the light.

Almandine's density and hardness make it well-suited to being drilled and strung. This strand has been knotted on red silk in the traditional manner which protects the beads and preserves the drape. The barrel clasp closes with a satisfying snap. This necklace looks beautiful worn on its own, with a gold chain or another antique beads necklace.
