Here is a fabulous antique, Georgian to early Victorian, 15k gold snake necklace with quartz head and garnet eyes. The snake chain is sexy, slinky and smooth on the neck. The design is uninterrupted, a slide closure slips into the head of the snake with a secure snap. This beauty is in fabulous antique condition, each scale and section of the articulated chain is in place and moves beautifully.
Snake inspired jewelry has a rich history dating back to the 8th century BC. The snake reached great popularity in England when Prince Albert gave Queen Victoria an emerald snake ring as an engagement ring and a token of his great affection for her. The serpent symbolized eternal love.
The heart pendant which the snake guards in his teeth is modeled in 15k gold, and is decorated with lovely hand etched decorations. The chrysoberyl is of a fresh, lightgreen color, like new spring grass, and looks marvelous with the buttery 15k gold.
The back of the heart has a small closed locket. I have not tried to open it. The heart is small and puffy, quite plump, measuring roughly 15mm across and tall.
Perfection in miniature ~ What a sweet accent to your favorite neck mess or worn alone on its own delicate chain. A wonderful gift to your beloved, or for yourself. He pledges his eternal love to you!
I have shown the necklace layered with some others from my personal collection. This listing is ONLY for the snake necklace.
