This lovely, antique pendant is fashioned as a large Sterling Silver, open work, heart, studded with moonstones in claw settings. Fourteen, well matched, silvery blue-grey, moonstone capture the light individually in a beautifully moody and magical way. The moonstone has been well loved throughout jewelry history, and was a favorite of the Victorians. Characterized by its shimmering, ethereal, adularescence, the stone perfectly matched the sentimental esthetic of the era, and continued in popularity well into the Arts and Crafts movement in England.
A symbol of romantic love, femininity and protection, moonstones were often used in crescent moon motifs or as tokens of affection. The stone was believed to foster balance, intuition and good fortune. I have shown this pendant on a long, antique, sterling silver, curb watch chain that will be available on the website, the pendant also looks wonderful worn higher, just below the throat on a the thick curb watch chain.
