Carnelian has been treasured since antiquity — worn by Egyptian pharaohs, prized by Roman senators, and carried as a talisman across centuries of human history. Prized for its warm, translucent glow and its association with vitality, courage, and protection, it remains one of the most evocative gemstones in the collector's canon.
This extraordinary antique pendant is a testament to that enduring legacy. At its heart is a large oval slice of carnelian, beautifully striated in bands ranging from golden yellow-orange to deep red. The stone is translucent — light passes through it in a way that makes it seem almost alive, glowing warmly from within.
The carnelian disc is suspended within a plain 18k gold frame, its edge decorated with a delicate twisted gold wire — a refined detail that speaks to the hand of a skilled goldsmith. Rising from either side of the frame, two heraldic serpents twist and slither upward, their sinuous forms converging at the very top of the pendant around a classical urn. The composition is rich with symbolism: serpents have long represented the mystery of creation and recreation, of cycles, transformation, and eternal renewal.
Two suspension options allow for versatile chain threading, making this piece as wearable as it is collectible. The rich warmth of 18k gold complements the carnelian beautifully — each element enhancing the other. The 18k setting is the same on both sides, underlining the great pride in worksmanship, and attention to detail.
